Larry Norman - '73 So Long Ago The Garden

미국의 싱어송라이터, 가수 그리고 프로듀서를 했던 Larry Norman씨의 네번째 솔로 앨범이다. 래리 노만씨는 잘 알려진 대로 . 정치적인 행동가이기도 하였을 뿐 아니라, 크리스찬 뮤직의 아버지라고 불리곤 하였다. 또한 많은 아티스트에게 영향을 주었던 뮤지션이기도 하다.

 노만씨는 피플 밴드에서부터 널리 알려지기 시작하였을 텐데.

 Geoff and Robb Levin형제와 Larry Norman 과 주축으로 만들어진 피플은,  사실 The Beatles, The Animals, and The Byrds과 같이 동물이름이 밴드이름이 된것과 반대로 People!이란 이름을 지었다고 한다. ㅎㅎ
동물들보다는 더 나은 음악을 하겠다는 의지가 보인다.  피플의  "l love you" 이곡을 들으면 정말 심장이 떨리곤 했는데, 그것은 지금도 마찬가지이다. 명곡이란 언제나 들어도 같은 감동을 주는것 같다.

노만씨의 이 네번째 앨범의 제작을 할 당시에 ,노만씨는  마약문제로 고통을 받는 많은 뮤지션들에게 도움을 주기에 애썼는데 . 이때 그느 성경을 공부하는 "The vineyard"란 그룹을 만들었다고 한다. 이그룹에는 뮤지션뿐만 아니라 배우들도 참여가 되어있는데,  이 그룹에는 밥 딜런도 참여를 하였다고 한다. 이후 79년에 딜런이 발매한 앨범 Slow Train Coming (1979), Saved (1980), and Shot of Love (1981).에서는 노만씨의 이 앨범과 상당히 닮아져 있는 스타일의 곡들이 발매가 되었다고 한다.

"This is the greatest album I've ever heard" 라고 하면서.

"I'll never write one as good as that, he'll never write one as good as that, - nobody will. It touched me in every area. You know men in conflict, like Dylan was when he was dying to self and becoming a Christian are very interesting... We were all afraid that he would be overly affected by the evangelical simplicity of American mindlessness and write an album that wasn't really worth his gift for poetry. That album is like a prayer, it's a beautiful prayer, a social communion. It's a communion for all the disenchanted people that are angry"

 라고 묘사를 하였는데, 요약을 하면 딜런처럼 시적으로 영감을 마법처럼 풀어져 기도를 할수 있는 앨범은 절대 없다고 한다.

 딜런의 팬으로써 딜런이 이야기만 나오면 흥분을 하고는 하는데 어쩔수가 없다. ㅋㅋ

딜런 뿐이 아니라 밴 모리슨 John Mellencamp 또한 래리 노만씨의 팬이라고 하고. 300명이 넘는 뮤지션들이 그의 노래를 커버를 해왔다.

암튼 이앨범은 래리 노만씨의 자작곡들로 수록이 되어 있고. 피플에서도 무지 좋아했던곡 she is a dancer곡도 노만씨의 여린 감성과 새로운 느낌으로 수록이 되어있다, 이 음반을 녹음을 할 당시 옆방에서는 폴 매카트니가  "Live and Let Die" 앨범을 녹음을 하고 있다고 하는데 피플과 비틀즈의 인연인가?
